One of Stefanja Dumanowski's primary preoccupations in her art making is expressing the transient veils of light and color that appear to infinitely transform object and space in her immediate environment, whether indoors or out, and translating those fragile and fleeting phenomena to paper. Currently, digital media helps her to do that expediently, while offering her the opportunity to explore a new and very seductive experience of painting with light rather than pigment.
Stefanja Dumanowski studied fine art at the University of Calgary and the Alberta College of Art. She taught at the Alberta College of Art and Design from 1974 until 2008 when she decided to retire and focus on her studio practice. She has work in collections throughout Canada, United States and Japan.
