Canadian painter and art educator, Scott Pattinson, was originally trained in Architecture and as an Urban Designer. Although his paintings still murmur sculpture and the three-dimensional, they are more importantly, a colorful glimpse into the ever moving present. "It is about the flow and energy of life."
The riotous use of color and layering of shapes is influenced by the architectural plan or elevation. "My work is a response to found spatial relationships and structures in the environment - simple structures with common sense and thought in their assemblage. The work is a study of these forms, adds the fluid simultaneity of life… it is like inventing something new, a truth, from the subconscious… an interpretation of the aesthetics in things… yet tangible and open… the result is an intensified representation of my experience with the thing; thus it has power…"
‘Pattinson’s paintings are scarred, cross hatched surfaces clotted with smudged pastels and inky black geometries interrupted by curls of hot colors or nullifying white’ -
