Aron Hill
Aron Hill currently lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. He graduated from Alberta College of Art and Design in 2000 with a BFA in Interdisciplinary studies. He then completed his MFA at Goldsmiths College, University of London. His work there evolved into installation based projects using traditional drawing and painting methods alongside formal sculptural elements, large format photography and text based work. He has recently been focused on formalist paintings that recall aspects of minimalism and color field paintings though with references to the figure throughout. He finds conceptual company in the late Modernist paintings produced particularly in Canada. The choice of a restricted medium, acrylic ink washes on prepared raw canvas, forces restraint. The work's graphic nature relies on the sheer flatness this medium produces. Aron has exhibited internationally, occasionally lectures, and writes.

Artist Highlight
Fiona Ackerman
May 1 – May 8
In response to Covid 19 and the Government ordered shut down of all galleries, HKG will focus on one artist each week including a highlighted piece from the artist which will be offered for one week only or until it is purchased, for a special one-time price.
Fiona Ackerman was raised in Montreal by a journalist / playwright / author Mother. Her father is a successful German painter whom she met in her teens when she discovered her passion for painting and had the opportunity to connect with him through summer arts programs in Germany. Since completing her BFA through Concordia and ECIAD, Fiona has exhibited across Canada, Europe (London, Berlin, Nuremberg, Munster, Budapest and Düsseldorf) as well as Taipei. She was longlisted for the Sobey Prize in 2015 and received an honorable mention for the Kingston Prize for Canadian Portraiture in 2009. She is fluent in English and French and not only draws and paints but is rather talented on the computer with creating digital files, video and recently taught herself how to do digital animation. Recent projects include a building wrap mural in Vancouver, and a commissioned 10 minute video projection for the Façade Festival (Burrard Arts Foundation), projected onto the façade of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Fiona’s other passion is music. She is in a band called KCAR in
which she writes the music, lyrics, plays the guitar and makes
the music videos. Since quarantine and isolation due to Covid-
19, Fiona has written new songs, made 3 videos and several
shorts, many of which we have shared through social media and our INSOLATION page on the website.
