Aron Hill is a popular Calgary artist with a BFA from the Alberta University of Art and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in England. Aron Hill is married to an emergency nurse at the Children’s Hospital and father to Charlie and Ida whom he and Jayne home school.
Aron is known for more than just his art career. He is involved with The Doorway https://thedoorway.ca/ with publishing
stories and living documents,
(https://www.livingdocumentspublishing.com/ ), he is a partner n the Altador Monogram Coffee shop, a space he himself built from his previous community workshop space, works as an art consultant, art installer, curator and he makes stretchers, panels and plinths for other artists . Aron’s studio and workshop are in his home basement which allows him to work when the kids are playing or sleeping. To say it is a full life is an understatement but it is all connected for Aron in community. Aron has a vast network of diverse people who respect him for the quality of his work and the care he shows for everything he does and everyone he meets. He has recently been focused on formalist paintings that recall aspects of minimalism and color field paintings though with references to the figure throughout. He finds conceptual kinship with the late Modernist paintings produced particularly in Canada. The choice of a restricted medium, acrylic ink washes on prepared raw canvas, forces restraint. The work's graphic nature relies on the sheer flatness this medium produces.
